Get to Know
I come from a long line of quilters and needlewomen. I love to quilt, sew, embroider, knit, crochet, collage; cut and paste; mess with dye, crayons and pens; play with fabric and thread and paper and colors and tools and gadgets. I own nine sewing machines, including a lovely vintage Featherweight 221 that handles like a Mercedes. My stash--of everything, fabric, yarn, buttons, lace, trim, embellishments--is ridiculous and immense. A coverlet pieced by my great-grandmother and quilted and tied by my mother hangs for inspiration on the wall of my house in NJ. I'm trying to figure out how to frame the gorgeous hand-embroidered lawn christening dress [with matching slip] my grandmother made for me so it can hang there, too. I love to solve problems of design and construction [my dad was an engineer] but also admire the random and unexpected, the rough edge as well as the smooth, precise seam. Needlework is my passion, my obsession, my joy and my sanity. I'm also a novelist, a baseball fan, a cat lover; a retired teacher, a film buff, a cook; an avid and constant reader, a city dweller, a snowbird who lives in Florida from December to March, a proud sister, friend, aunt and grandaunt. Thank you very much for visiting my shop. I hope you will come again soon.
