Vintage German Bridal Cup

Image Description
Here's a great wedding gift that no one else would think to give as a gift!

The traditional wedding toast in Germany and neighboring European countries uses the chalice to remind them of a symbol of love, faithfulness and good luck. The cup is use during the wedding toast traditionally given by the best man. Holding it upside down so that the skirt can be used as a cup, the beverage is first poured into the hollow skirt & then into the small swiveling cup underneath. The bride takes the smaller cup in hand while the groom holds the larger cup. The wedding couple simultaneously raise the cup to their lips to drink. If they drink without spilling a drop, they are ensured of a loving, faithful union with a lifetime of good luck.

This cup is about 7 1/4" high. The diameter of the large cup is 3 1/8" and the little cup diameter is 1 3/4".

The piece is covered in ornate detailing. on the woman's back is a pink stone. The inside of the cups are gold burnished finish. There is a small spot in the larger cup & the gold finish is about out of the little cup.

It is in excellent condition. There are no maker's marks. I believe this is a metal alloy that has been silver-plated with a washed gold inside cups.

If you want a conversation piece or a great bridal shower gift, this is it!
