Skills and Techniques

The lampworking glass artist seems to be a dying art, this is the kind of art you would find in the mall back in the 80's. We would use an Oxygen and Propane to get a super hot flame to melt and sculpt glass using a glass torch to the hard melting

Burt’s Story as the solo artist at Tugas Glass

Hello all, my name is Burt Murphy. I have been teaching English and making glass art for over 15 years and I love it. I am from a small town in the US called Loveland in the state of Colorado, but I live 6 months out of the year in the country of Mexico about an hour and a half south of Mexico City in the town of Cuernavaca. My wife is from here and we have 3 daughters that we have taught both Spanish and English since they were babies. Besides teaching English I am an artist at home and totally in love with it. In my shop, I am a glass blower and I make ocean animals (mostly sea turtles) out of glass using an intensely hot flame from a specially designed torch. I have been making glass art since I was 16 years old and I was taught by my father Ron Murphy. You can find my work at www.tugasglass.com or at www.glassnfire.com with my dad's work.
And thank you for letting me be a part of this great experience.
Burt Murphy
