Handmade Vertex style gunmetal ballpoint pen in Purpleheart
Details
This is a ballpoint pen turned out of Purpleheart with metal components in a gun metal finish. The weight of this pen is 33 grams and is 5-3/4 inches long.
Purpleheart, sometimes called Amaranth, this colorful Latin American hardwood is tremendously popular for furniture and other designs that call for a unique splash of color. The color does change, darkening as it is open to the air. In addition to its coloration, Purpleheart has excellent strength properties, and can be used in applications where strength is important?a wood for both form and function. And I find it quite a workable wood. Rarely does it frustrate me on the lathe by chipping or blowing out.
A bit about of the process of creating these pens: I start with a hand-selected bit of wood and the bits that make up the pen. I then spend some time working the wood to be the proper diameter to match the mechanism. Sand paper is applied, through a number of grits, to get a nice, smooth surface. Several coats of finish are applied and buffed. The wood and metal bits are then combined into a unique item.

Shipping
Wood and wire objects will be shipped through USPS, usually through priority mail. If the postage costs exceed what I've charged, I'll absorb the difference.
Stained glass must be insured in shipment and will usually be shipped through UPS.
Sales Tax:
All shipments to Texas must add 8.25 % for Sales Tax.
Custom work:
I'm happy to discuss custom work, whether it's a pen, bottle stopper, chainmaille, or stained glass. Custom pieces require a 50% deposit up front to allow me to purchase materials.
Returns:
If an item needs to be returned, let me know within 7 days of receipt and we can arrange something. The return policy on custom pieces can vary and will be discussed at the time of commissioning.
