Handmade Rag Doll - Old Fashioned, Button-Eyed Dolly

Details

Dolly is an old-fashioned rag doll with black button eyes and brown curly hair (unraveled yarn), styled in two ponytails. She has a happy expression and pink cheeks (though they don't show up well in the pictures). Her head and body front, arms and legs are made of white muslin. Her back is made of brown and blue woven check fabric. Her eyes are sewn-on buttons, making her unsuitable for children under 3.

Inspiration/Story Behind This Product

In years past, dolls could be made with whatever scraps of left-over fabric the maker had on hand, and I used that fact to my advantage when I realized I didn't have enough muslin on hand to make up the pattern I had just drawn. Yes, I COULD have driven down to the fabric store and bought some, but I was impatient to see her "in the flesh." :)

Materials Used

Doll: Cotton fabrics, poly-cotton thread, polyester fiberfill. Black plastic buttons, embroidery floss. Blush.
Clothing: Cotton flannel, cotton muslin, blue ribbon, cotton-poly thread.

More Info

Dolly is about 20" tall and machine-stitched. Her hair is stitched down at the center part. She has an embroidered yellow heart on her chest to signify her "birthplace" - Fairbanks, Alaska, the Golden Heart City. Her clothes are hand-stitched.
