ANTIQUE Qing SILVER LOCK Chinese Repousse Jewelry L7
Exquisite, very rare antique Chinese silver symbolic lock from the Ching Dynasty (1644-1911.)
This is a museum quality collectible - a large focal lock measuring 3 1/2" x 2 7/8" x 1/2" thick and weighing approximately 60.5 grams.
It is in excellent condition as we have had it well stored and protecetd all these years since acquiring it back in Hong Kong in the 1980's.
The Chinese, including the Hmong, wore these necklaces to literally "lock" their soul in place to ward off spirits. Quite often in fact , bells were attached to ward off evil spirits.
By looking at the style of a lock, experienced collectors and dealers can tell which province, even in which city, it was produced
The life of the silver symbolic lock culture was short. It was officially terminated by the Cultural Revolution, starting around 1966.
You can see the detail of the hand hammering on this piece and the meticulous workmanship that went into producing it.
** I've lightened the photographs somewhat to reveal this incredible detail ** .
This lock features Chinese lettering on one side, and a gathering of 5 people on the other side. The middle figure appears to be sitting on a reindeer and if you look closely you can see the antlers!
There's a bar across the lock for attaching to a chain or cord. There is a hole below the bar as in all such locks.
Joel and I were quite fortunate to purchase a number of pieces of antique Chinese silver from this time period and will be listing a few as time permits. We personally purchased these pieces in Hong Kong during the 1980's and 100% guarantee them to be antique Chinese silver.
This lock will arrive in a vintage Chinese embroidered silk purse for safe keeping or to give as a gift.

IMPORTANT NOTICE: POSTAGE RATES HAVE RISEN DRAMATICALLY IN 2020
ORDERS INSIDE USA: A charge of $4.00 covers any first class shipment up to 15 ounces. Our beads vary so much in weight that it is impossible for us to apply a single add-on charge for multiple product orders. We will continue to refund to customers any amount that greatly exceeds our actual cost of shipping and handling.
ORDERS OUTSIDE USA: International First Class rates are now crazy: $16.50 for any package weighing from 1-5 ounces. Even an order for 2-3 small bead items may cost $16.50 or more, depending on the type of material (stone versus resin, for example). We apologize in advance if we have to adjust the postage cost of an order that has been placed. We will understand if an order is rescinded when the postage cost is too high relative to the product value.
All international orders have contents described as "loose beads" and are flagged as "commercial samples" or " gift" if you prefer to make your life easier when receiving your beads. If you'd like us to mark your order as " gift" instead please let us know!
All our beads are inspected one by one before being shipped. They are individually wrapped to protect them and then put in little plastic ziploc bags.
All vintage beaded jewelry is either shipped in a little gift box tied with a ribbon or in a vintage Chinese embroidered silk purse.
If you ever have a problem with a damaged bead or jewelry, don't hesitate to contact us. We are only human, and with so many orders going out on a daily basis, there is always room for error. We will replace your order (assuming we have more in stock), issue you a store credit, or give you a full refund if the item is returned in the same condition as it was shipped within 7 days of receiving your order if you are not fully satisfied. You must notify us as soon as you receive your order if there is a problem.
We want you to be 100% thrilled with your purchases!
We value each and every customer and are delighted that you have chosen to shop in our store! Customer relations are extremely important to us and we pride ourselves on the authenticity of what we sell, how we package it, and being accessible to all of you should a question or a problem ever arise.
Thank you - Debby and Joel Arem
Love my beads! The coloring in the epidote was not as intense as illustrated, but it is certainly a good example of the mineral. The colors in the unakite beads are wonderful. The quality of the carving I would rate as good to excellent.
Nice beads!! Super fast thanks a lot!!!
I have dreamed of having a necklace such as the jade one. But the red one. That was a surprise. Both are beautiful. Thank you! Best, Jane
Lovely color;!interesting stones.
When I thought that I had ordered two of these and then checked out I had to order another set. The seller was very kind and combined my two orders and refunded my shipping.
