Galaxy glass bead with sterling silver chain
The bead has a core made of fine silver tubing. The jump ring and wire going through the bead are sterling silver.
This bead combines a lot of different techniques before it is finally completed and was inspired by a bead created by Corina Tettinger in her book, Passing The Flame. First, a black cylinder bead is created. Once the orange glow dissipates, it is wrapped in silver foil which is then burnished. The silver foil is slowly burned off to give it the ‘starry night’ effect. Next come the galaxies; a combination of different glass dots that are melted in and then ‘swirled’ into the base glass. Different embellishments are then added such as fine silver wire, cubic zirconia, star murrini, and/or dichroic glass stringer. Once all the effects are added, the finished bead is then encased in clear glass. The bead then goes into the kiln to be annealed. Annealing removes internal stress that builds up in the glass during creation.
