Sterling silver three circle earrings, shipping costs one penny
How they are made:
I couldn't think of a good names for these and am open to suggestions......
The main earring is made out of 18 gauge sterling silver wire. After it is formed, 24 gauge sterling silver wire is wrapped around it and soldered. The hanging pieces are heated red hot on one end until a molten ball of silver forms. If a bead is going to be put on, it is inserted now. Then a circle is formed on the other end and soldered closed. They are put on the open ends of the earrings and they are soldered closed.
Different beads used have been tigereye, amethyst, jade and lapis.
Next, the ear wire is fabricated. This starts with a piece of 20 gauge wire usually about 2" long. The wire is heated red hot on one end just until a molten ball forms on the end, then it is quenched in water and pickled.
The circle is formed with round nosed pliers and then the shaping of it is done on a mandrel. The end of the wire is smoothed using a cup bur so there are no sharp edges and then the end of the wire is given a small bend.
Next, the earring is soldered on and then it is tumbled to 'work harden' it and give it its final finish.
From the top of the earring to the bottom of the hanging part is approximately
1 ½ inches.
