Sterling silver Tibetan green and red bead earrings
How they are made:
These start out as 14 gauge silver wire that is heated red hot until a molten ball forms on one end. After cooling/pickling, it is hammered flat and then drilled.
Next, the ear wire is fabricated. This starts with a piece of 20 gauge wire usually about 2" long. The wire is heated red hot on one end just until a molten ball forms on the end, then it is quenched in water and pickled.
The circle is formed with round nosed pliers and then the shaping of it is done on a mandrel. The end of the wire is smoothed using a cup bur so there are no sharp edges and then the end of the wire is given a small bend.
Next, the earring is soldered on and then it is tumbled to 'work harden' it and give it its final finish.
The beads are slid onto the wire and then the end is forged (hammered) to flatten it so the beads cannot come off.
The earring is 1 ½ inches from the top where it attaches to the ear wire to the bottom.
