Sterling silver Valentine heart earrings on a chain, one cent shipping
These earrings are a reminder of how your hearts are chained together. Simple, yet the message is clear.
How they are made:
These start as 18 gauge sterling silver wire. Each heart is made out of two pieces of wire that are formed into shape on a mandrel, filed on each end to make a close fit and then soldered together into the heart shape. The small loops are made and soldered on to the top of each heart and then they are chained together using hand made jump rings. The jump rings are individually soldered closed and then shaped.
Then, the ear wire is fabricated. This starts with a piece of 20 gauge wire usually about 2" long. The wire is heated red hot on one end just until a molten ball forms on the end, then it is quenched in water and pickled.
The circle is formed with round nosed pliers and then the shaping of it is done on a mandrel. The end of the wire is smoothed using a cup bur so there are no sharp edges and then the end of the wire is given a small bend.
The heart is soldered on and then the earring is tumbled to 'work harden' it and give it its final finish.
The overall length of the earring from the top of the large heart to the bottom of the small heart is approximately 1 7/8 inches.
The large heart is approximately 1 3/8 inches across.
