bejeweled ... diamond patterns on a background of blue silk scarf
This was made with a mega-fun shibori technique. You affix clay balls to the scarf with rubber bands. Where the rubber bands compress the fabric, it's harder for the dye to penetrate - this gives the white diamond outlines. Then you drip, spray, paint or otherwise add color and put it into a plastic bag to keep it wet while it cures overnight. The next day, you get to see the display - see the last photos for an example. For this scarf, I impregnated the clay balls with yellow dye, which adds to the color complexity inside the diamond shape without allowing dye to escape outside. The ends are mostly light blue and morph to a purplish-pink shade near the throat.
This 11"x60" silk scarf was dyed with Procion MX fiber reactive dyes. To make sure that the scarf will be colorfast, it was machine washed twice in hot water with a professional textile detergent. During the final rinse, a special conditioner, Milsoft, was added, which gives the scarf a buttery soft feel.
To care for your scarf, blot with a moistened towel, or, if necessary, hand wash in cold water with a couple of drops of gentle detergent like dishwashing liquid. Iron when damp to remove wrinkles.

ADDITIONAL INFO and FAQs
I'm really trying to make a go of it on artfire, but haven't made many sales yet. If you'd like to see what people have to say about my work, check out my etsy shop here: http://www.etsy.com/people/drapeyournape/feedback?ref=pr_feedback
For every sale, 50% of the profits will be donated to Fill This House. Every year, 200-300 kids age out of the foster care system just in Cuyahoga County, OH alone. Many of them are left without any family for support and may own just the clothes on their backs. This charitable organization provides these young people with new household items to begin the next phase of their lives. See http://www.fillthishouse.org/ for more information.
I love my new scarf, thank you again for another fabulous creation!=o)))
