Danburite Vintage TRIANGLE gemstone Virtual Reality Cut 5.18 cts fgs98
Unique danburite loose faceted gemstone weighing 5.18 carats, a fine example of "Virtual Reality" cutting (this name is protected by trademark), developed by Joel Arem and gem cutter Tom Olenick nearly a decade ago. This cut is reminiscent of a "soccer ball" and is one of a series of stones developed to showcase the cutting style in two specific materials: danburite and golden sunstone. Its dimensions are 11.0 x 6.6 mm.
Danburite is a hard mineral that is known chiefly from the classic locality at Charcas, Mexico, where it occurs in gemmy colorless crystals. No other locality produces significant quantities of gem quality material. Production at this locality has been curtailed by mine owners, and scarcity of the material will therefore increase. Danburite cut gems have become increasingly popular (the stone is as "white" as fine diamond). Danburite may be in short supply, but is in great demand because of its believed metaphysical properties. Danburite is allegedly connected to the Heart Chakra and is supposedly good for relieving emotional pain and increasing acceptance of one's self and of others. Danburite's energy is said to ease stress and bring peace and serenity.
Virtual Reality cutting produces geometric images that seem to "float" within the body of their host gemstones. Meticulous control of angles, proportions and surface polish allow the images to be enhanced, changed, expanded and intensified. These subtle modifications, combined with changes in gemstone shape, yield an endless series of new and different images and effects.
Virtual Reality cutting, applied to the creation of stars, crosses and other well-known symbols, adds a totally new dimension to the potential of danburite (and golden sunstone) gemstones as objects of art and adornment. While it is true that such patterns have been applied to faceted gemstones in the past, the results have been less than exciting. The amazing brilliancy and transparency of danburite and golden sunstone now enables the full potential of such imagery to be realized in jewelry. These same properties also have led to the creation of an entirely new generation of gemstone products. Virtual Reality cuts are EXCLUSIVELY available from Debby and Joel Arem's shops. IMPORTANT NOTICE: POSTAGE RATES HAVE RISEN DRAMATICALLY IN 2020
ORDERS INSIDE USA: A charge of $4.00 covers any first class shipment up to 15 ounces. Our beads vary so much in weight that it is impossible for us to apply a single add-on charge for multiple product orders. We will continue to refund to customers any amount that greatly exceeds our actual cost of shipping and handling.
ORDERS OUTSIDE USA: International First Class rates are now crazy: $16.50 for any package weighing from 1-5 ounces. Even an order for 2-3 small bead items may cost $16.50 or more, depending on the type of material (stone versus resin, for example). We apologize in advance if we have to adjust the postage cost of an order that has been placed. We will understand if an order is rescinded when the postage cost is too high relative to the product value.
All international orders have contents described as "loose beads" and are flagged as "commercial samples" or " gift" if you prefer to make your life easier when receiving your beads. If you'd like us to mark your order as " gift" instead please let us know!
All our beads are inspected one by one before being shipped. They are individually wrapped to protect them and then put in little plastic ziploc bags.
