You guys have totally blown us away and the first week isn’t even over yet! Before we get on with the additional Facebook information we just wanted to say a big thanks to all of you who are jumping in to help answer questions. You’re doing such a great job, and we’re thrilled to see this becoming a real community event!
So… onwards and upwards! Today’s post is going to focus on a few key things to help you improve your presence on Facebook, including how to direct people to your Facebook page, how to get more “Likes” and increase engagement, and ways to grow your follower count.
How can I get people to see my Page, let alone Like it?
Well, first thing’s first, think about any and all communication you have with your customers. Every email or message you send to customers should have your Facebook page linked. And why not go a step further? Why not go ahead and say “Like us on Facebook!”. By directing them to do something, the odds of them completing that action (i.e. Liking you onFacebook) goes up.
Next up? When you actually send your goods out to your customers be sure to include mentions of your Facebook Page. Do you include a business card? Be sure your Facebook link is on there (and be sure it’s aunique URL without all those numbers)! Take a moment and write your customers a note (if you don’t already) encouraging them to give you feedback on Facebook! Something that’s worked incredibly well for the craft community is the ability for other users to post photos on Facebook Pages. Here’s a perfect example — if you sell jewelry, why not encourage your customers to take photos of themselves with their new purchase and post it to your Facebook Page? It’s free advertising, and it’s something called “social proof” — this just means that you are viewed as more valuable and accepted since others publicly say so.
The bottom line is that it’s important for you to actually let your customers know that you’re on Facebook and that they can engage with you there. Make sure they know where they can find you, and try to include them in the process!
What should I be posting?
As we mentioned before, posting interesting but relevant content is key. It is natural for you to post about new products you’re working on. But why not take it a step further? Try asking your audience what they’d like to see you create next. You can upload images or sketches to give them a general idea of what is possible and have them vote by Liking the different pictures.

How often, and when, should I post?
There’s a great resource that Mashable just came out with that tells you, on average, the time and day that may get the most engagement on Facebook. They even went so far as to figure out which words you could use in your posts that are more likely to get you those coveted Likes. The truth is though, that there isn’t one uniform time to post on Facebook. Really think about your audience, and in particular, the time of day purchases tend to come in to your ArtFire shop. Is it the middle of the day when people are on their lunch break? Is it mainly on the weekends? Start out by mimicking your selling patterns for posting on Facebook.
As mentioned in Monday’s post — start out with three posts a week. Far and away it’s more important for you to have quality over quantity. However, it can’t hurt for you to check in with your followers every now and then. Maybe on a Friday ask what they’re doing for the weekend? Want to knowsomething funny? People love talking about themselves… so if you give them an opportunity to talk a bit you’ll be well on your way.
My follower count is stuck. What should I do to increase my numbers?
The answer to this question really depends on how comfortable you are. A lot of crafters have success with doing giveaways. Instead of just offering a giveaway, include a social element. Here’s an example: If they Like your Page they get a chance to win a free bracelet. But, if they create a status update and post it on their Facebook profile saying they entered the contest with a link to your Page, maybe that’s a second entry for them. This way, they’re spreading the word about your Page for you!
It can be frustrating to be stuck around the same number of followers, but if you consistently tell your customers about your Facebook Page, and especially your new customers, the number should grow steadily (assuming your business grows).

-The study found that daily Facebook engagement has three peaks: early morning (7 a.m. EST), after work (5 p.m. EST) and late at night (11 p.m. EST). Therefore, posting all of your updates during the workday means you’re missing key opportunities to engage fans at non-work hours.
-Thursday and Friday have 18% more engagement than other days of the week
Retail: Sunday is a big day for engagement on the shopping and retail front, but only 5% of entertainment posts go up on Sunday. The industry’s posts lean heavily toward Friday, which has below-average engagement.
Tip: Target shoppers on Sunday.
- Fashion: Engagement peaks on Thursday but dips on the weekend. The industry pushes the most content on Tuesday, the day with the lowest engagement.
Tip: Optimize engagement on Thursday.
- Healthcare and Beauty: Like fashion — perhaps because consumers are shopping and preparing for the weekend — healthcare and beauty brands see the most engagement on Thursday. But a lot of content is posted on Mondays and Fridays, when engagement is lower.
Tip: Post content on Thursday.
